An organizational space (or org space or space) is a concept used to discuss and understand organizational methods. It refers to a top-level category in an organizational hierarchy.
Some examples:
Tiago Forte’s PARA method has four spaces:
Projects
Areas
Resources
Archives
Nick Milo’s ACE method has three spaces:
Atlas
Calendar
Efforts
The PEAKER method from Fractal Productivity has six org spaces.1
Protocols
Efforts
Arcs
Keep
Embers
Records
If you maintain an inbox, this should also be considered a separate org space.
It is useful to distinguish by name any sub-structure (e.g., nested folders) located directly within org spaces. One can simply refer to them as organizational containers. An organizational container is a grouping directly below the top level. So, in PARA, for instance, if you have a project folder “Complete XY Report” within your Projectes
space, this is an org container. Org containers are usually more dynamic than org spaces; they change more often.
