Smart Task Management (with Todoist)
Crafting A Personal Productivity System From First Principles
This is the index post of my essay series on smart task management.
It's a deep dive into how to build a smart digital productivity system from first principles.
For practical examples, I’ll be using Todoist (which I highly recommend as a task manager), but this course is not so much about any concrete tool as about building up a highly personalized productivity system from scratch.
Here’s the overview of what you will get in this series:

Introduction To The Series
I'm excited to share that I've reached an important milestone in my productivity journey. After 8 years, 1 month, 1 week, and 5 days of using Todoist1 as my personal task manager and completing over 10,000 tasks, I've achieved the Enlightened Karma Level.2
Todoist Karma awards points based on tasks completed and factors like meeting daily/weekly goals.
The various levels become increasingly challenging to attain, with only 0.05% of users reaching the Enlightened level.
It typically takes 3-4 years of rigorous effort, but given the unpredictable nature of life and the different productivity stages we go through, it's more likely to take 7-10 years.3
To celebrate this accomplishment, I'll publish a comprehensive task management series over the next few months.
Here's a sneak peek at the topics I'll be covering:
Establishing a personal, digital inventory ✔️
Building a digital productivity arsenal ✔️
Understanding the nuances between tasks and digital artifacts ✔️
Mastering capture mechanics ✔️
The significance of the qualifying process ✔️
Smart inbox management and using buffer zones ✔️
Cultivating a doer mindset ✔️
Establishing effective productivity habits ✔️
Keeping task management alive ✔️
If you have any topic suggestions, please leave a comment and I'll do my best to incorporate them into the series.
